Is It Illegal To Take A BB Gun To School?

Is it illegal to take a BB gun, airsoft gun, airgun or pellet gun to school? The answer to this question depends on where you live, however the logical answer is do not take any of these guns onto school property without obtaining permission from the school corporation. Even if you somehow did get permission to do so, do so with extreme caution!

Some states have laws in place that makes taking an airgun onto school property illegal. These states include California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.

While there are a large number of states that do not have any law on the books concerning taking BB guns, airsoft guns, airguns or pellet guns onto school property, many local jurisdictions do have these laws, which makes doing so illegal still.

Also, nearly every school corporation will have bylaws against bringing any type of object resembling a gun onto their grounds.

Doing so can put yourself at risk, so never bring any type of object resembling a gun onto a school campus. Even if you brought it for an innocent purpose, the chance that you could be misidentified as a threat is great and could ultimately lead to dire consequences.
